DocuSign Donates to Arbor Day Foundation to Preserve 1 Million Square Feet of Rain Forest
The World’s Most Trusted Electronic Signature Network Celebrates Positive Environmental Impact of More Than Half Billion Pages DocuSigned
SEATTLE – July 18, 2011 – DocuSign® (www.docusign.com), the world’s most trusted electronic signature network with more than eight million DocuSigners, today announced that the company has processed more than a half billion pages through the DocuSign Global Network on behalf of its customers, allowing them to finish business faster while having a positive impact on the global environment. With the average tree able to produce an estimated 8,300 pages of paper according to the Environmental Energies Technology Division of the University of California’s Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, the DocuSign Global Network has saved more than 60,000 trees.
The more than half billion pages of contracts, agreements and other legally binding documents processed by DocuSign without paper delivers significant positive impact to businesses and the environment alike. For businesses, DocuSign customers benefit from decreased contract cycle times, reduced costs, improved contract visibility and control, enhanced customer satisfaction, and a greener approach. The environment benefits as paper is replaced with a fast, efficient, electronic alternative.
“While many companies still rely on pen and paper to finish business, DocuSign customers have discovered a better way for their businesses and for the environment,” said Tom Gonser, founder and chief strategy officer. “The DocuSign Global Network makes the world work better by giving businesses new freedom to send, sign, track and store documents in the cloud—all while reducing the environmental impact for all types and sizes of organizations around the globe.”
In fact, the volume of paper saved to date from DocuSigning equates to:
- More than 60,000 trees
- A stack of pages more than 165,000 feet in height
- A straight line of pages more than 86,000 miles long (enough to wrap around the Earth’s equator more than three times)
- Approximately $4,000,000 (before sales tax) in paper purchased from an office supply store
- More than $10,000,000 in printing cost at a retail printer
- More than $9,300,000,000 in shipping costs if those documents were overnighted to/from a signer
To celebrate this milestone, DocuSign will make a contribution on behalf of its customers, partners, developers and employees to the Arbor Day Foundation (www.arborday.org) to preserve an additional one million square feet of rain forest.
“The Arbor Day Foundation applauds DocuSign for their commitment to conservation and environmental stewardship,” said Brian Schenk, corporate partnerships manager at the Arbor Day Foundation. “Our earth's tropical rain forests cover only two percent of the planet's surface yet are home to half of the earth's plant and animal species. This donation will help preserve this irreplaceable resource.”
“With the rapid adoption of DocuSign as the standard for electronic signature around the world and the viral effect of the DocuSign Global Network, we expect to reach more than one billion pages DocuSigned in no time,” said Gonser. “The positive environmental impact our customers are having is growing exponentially with more than 150,000 electronic documents containing more than one million pages DocuSigned every day.”
