This position
As a Principal Engineer, Information Fabric, you are responsible for building scalable, highly available, fault-tolerant, reliable distributed information systems. The team is focused on distributed systems, information retrieval systems, data science, and advanced AI and ML models to enable a highly distributed persistence layer to make sure the needs of our internal customers are met as the company executes against our Agreement Cloud vision. We are the backbone that powers DocuSign’s data needs, and we move at a fast pace, solve hard problems, and are continuously innovating in the space and raising the bar.
This position is an individual contributor role reporting to the Senior Director of Infrastructure and Storage Engineering and is designated Flex.
Responsibilities
- Design core, back-end distributed software components
- Code solutions to challenging technical problems
- Conduct design reviews and code reviews
- Collaborate with customers and other teams to jointly design and develop solutions
- Create documentations that are necessary for operation and maintenance of the system
- Participate in the on-call rotation to handle any operational issues
- Analyze and improve efficiency, reliability, and scalability of core services
Basic qualifications
- 15+ years of related work experience with a Bachelor’s degree, 12+ years of related work experience with a Master’s degree, or 8+ years of related work experience with a Ph.D. degree
- BA/BS degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or related degree experience
- 10+ years of hands-on software development experience in C# / Java / C++/SQL
- Experience building large-scale, highly available and reliable applications
- Experience building scalable, highly available cloud systems
- Experience in distributed system architecture and design
- Experience with database system design
Preferred qualifications
- Familiarity with AI and machine learning frameworks
- Familiarity with R, Scala, Python, Go
- Experience with operating and database system internals and file systems, and networking
- Experience developing, promoting, and building consensus across engineering teams
