This position
The Microservices Framework team is looking for a seasoned and talented Principal Software Engineer. This team is chartered to work on a platform that enables microservices to deliver modern experience in the cloud. We create, maintain and operate scalable technology and data solutions that deliver an exceptional experience for our customers. We embrace Agile principles and values, favor DevOps practices, and view infrastructure as code, all while we create an infrastructure that scales and supports our growth and ambitious vision. We work with short release cycles (we deploy every week) and continuously aim to improve the services we build and the way we work. Delighting customers and building robust and scalable systems are our top priorities. This requires a smart, highly collaborative team who can identify, investigate, and implement new technologies to continue securely scaling our global business.

This position is an individual contributor role reporting to the Director of Engineering and is designated Flex.

Responsibilities

• Think about how to solve problems in scale and build automation to manage complex software systems
• Own and deliver complete features, including design, architecture, implementation, testability, debugging, and shipping
• Re-Architect and migrate from a large monolithic architecture to modern platforms
• Work closely with other disciplines across the company to shape the service platform roadmap
• Build strong relationships with partner teams and deliver cross-team success
• Guide, mentor and coach junior engineers on the team
• Demonstrate the ability to learn quickly, be self-directed, and work well with other people
• Foster a culture of being agile, innovative, team-oriented and customer-focused
• Contribute to team-wide fundamentals/infrastructure investments
• Investigate and prototype new technologies and frameworks

Basic qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Systems, Informatics or equivalent
• 15+ years software development experience
• 5+ years experience working with cloud deployment and configuration tools using scripting and configuration platforms

Preferred qualifications

• Be open minded, forward thinking and passionate about great software platform and cloud technologies
• Strong communication skills, including working with partners, explaining complex technical issues and driving consensus across multiple teams
• Capable of technical deep dives into networking, service design, operating systems and storage, while able to shape strategy of the infrastructure and service reliability with leadership team members
• Experience in distributed systems, networking, global traffic management and capacity planning
• Expertise in problem solving and analyzing -diagnosing service health issues at global scale
• Experience defining and measuring internal/customer facing service level objectives/agreements
