This position
Our business is built on finding great people and getting out of their way while they build and improve our award-winning Software as a Service (SaaS) offering. We are looking for a Principal Software Development Engineer to join the Sign engineering team and help scale and build the next generation of e-Sign experiences. As a Principal Engineer you will spearhead the architecture and development of a highly scalable, reliable and available (“5 nines”) piece of our core offering. You will build a no-code platform solution to allow businesses to create workflows specific to their needs. This will involve developing and deploying large-scale distributed applications and services that orchestrate various DocuSign services to drive customer experience. As part of the job, you will have the opportunity to build the product grounds-up on the latest technology stack while influencing the future of the technology platform at DocuSign. You’ll also cover the API/backend, from sending a document to signing to integrating with various 3rd party systems, all in a dynamic environment. Our team focuses on distributed decision making that rewards ownership, transparency, and collaboration.

This position is an individual contributor role reporting to the Director of Engineering, Sign and is designated as Flex.

Responsibilities

• Write high quality code that is easy to maintain and test
• Design and build platform components for customer reporting and data, improving customer effectiveness at deploying and using DocuSign
• Support strategic code sharing and architecture for one or more functional area
• Ensure design and architecture is extensible across multiple projects, and participate in technical design and code reviews
• Work cross-organizationally to drive and grow developer productivity and team velocity.
• Work with Product Management and other developers to understand design requirements and provide estimates for development
• Work closely with QA to identify test cases and devise efficient, scalable testing processes
• Work cooperatively with product management and design to create features that are scalable and secure. identify, propose, and implement process improvements to continuously increase the team's productivity and efficiency
• Stay current with the latest development best practices and share your findings with the team
• Work as part of a cross-site development team to drive design, implementation, testing, and release of products
• Raise issues proactively that might impact delivery commitments
• Research new features and technologies
• Fix production issues and maintain the code as needed

Basic qualifications

• 15+ years of product development experience building large scale web applications
• Experience with full stack development, preferably in one or more of OO programming languages, like Nodejs, Java, C#, C++
• Experience designing and developing highly scalable consumer facing web application
• Hands-on, professional experience with consuming and building RESTful web-services
• Experience with designing data models and optimizing queries for large-scale highly-performant distributed applications.
• B.S. degree in Computer Science or relevant field of study

Preferred qualifications

• Knowledge and experience in high scale, highly available (99.99+) systems
• 4+ years professional experience building complex, scalable applications
• Excellent problem-solving skills
• Experience with NoSql db preferred
• Experience with working in an agile development environment
• Experience with git, continuous integration and deployment tools
• Curiosity and ability to learn new technologies and tool sets
• Experience with CSS, AJAX, JSON, HTML, and/or MVC preferred
• SaaS or Cloud experience
• Prior experience aligning platform architecture with security and data
• Experience with unit testing frameworks
• Experience developing, promoting and building consensus across engineering teams
