Developer Spotlight: Peter Ma, Clean Water AI
Peter Ma has been a software developer for more than 14 years. He was involved in many start-ups and projects that pushed the envelope of innovation. His accomplishments include speaking about mobile apps at TEDGlobal 2010, winning the Best Mobile App at the very first Docusign Hackathon back in 2011, and recently winning the World Virtual Govhack, which had a grand prize of $200,000 and was awarded by His Highness Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan of Dubai. Peter also won the 2015 AT&T Developer Summit grand prize for an app called Anti-Snoozer, a drowsy detection system that leverages both Intel® Edison™ board and Intel RealSense technology. (Peter later gave Secretary of State John Kerry a demo of that same app.) In all, Peter has won more than 100 hackathons and developer challenges. Peter is currently working on Clean Water AI, an AI that detects water contaminations from dangerous bacteria to harmful particles. Peter has also been a member of the Intel Software Innovator Program, a group of independent developers that display an ability to create and demonstrate forward-looking projects.
Peter's integration of DocuSign is for a project called 'Signing Accessibility for Vision Impaired', which focuses on using voice to guide visually impaired users step-by-step guide on how to sign a document using their mobile phone. Noting that there aren't a lot of accessible apps for the vision impaired, Peter commented, "Through recent advances in machine learning and voice recognition, I think we can make their signing experience a lot smoother through DocuSign as well as other apps".
When he's not taking on a new development challenge, Peter enjoys traveling and spending time outdoors. He has traveled to more than 35 countries over the past three years and hiked 240 miles on the John Muir Trail over just a two-week period.
